Regenerate! Symposium
In March 2025 I spoke at Regenerate!, a two-day symposium hosted by the Jan van Eyck Academie in collaboration with Maastricht University. The event marked the 10th anniversary of the Maastricht Centre for Arts and Culture, Conservation and Heritage (MACCH) and the re-launch of the Future Materials Lab.

Bringing together artists, designers, researchers, and academics from diverse disciplines, the symposium explored material innovation in relation to sustainability, conservation, circularity, and co-creation. The programme included lectures, panels, workshops, and a keynote by anthropologist Tim Ingold, creating space for dialogue between creative practice and critical research.
I presented research from my MA in Regenerative Design, which investigates how place-based craft practices can emerge from reinterpreting vernacular architecture and material ecologies of northwest Wales. My contribution introduced low-tech methods for identifying and understanding local clay-rich soils, alongside material samples and insights from fieldwork. My hope was to invite dialogue and reflection on recognising earth-based materials as active collaborators within living ecological systems rather than passive waste or resources.
