Material Connections: Parys Mountain
A project bringing together artists and geologists to explore the site's clays through creative work as part of ongoing research into the clay pits of Parys Mountain, Anglesey. Rhodes's contribution documents samples collected on site across three stages: as gathered, unprocessed; formed into polished spheres using a technique adapted from the Japanese craft of hikaru dorodango; and magnified 1000×, revealing variation between samples — some plastic, others sandy — each carrying material traces of place and deep time.
Curated by Trish Bould, the project brings together work by Martin Schwaller, Maia Wormsley, Kim Norton, Gabriella Rhodes, and Pom Stanley in a series of posters mapping narratives of time, colour, and place-based research inspired by the site and exhibited at Aberlleiniog Sculpture Trail.
